Alienware M11x gets overseas Core i3 / i5 / i7 and NVIDIA Optimus update, US version due tomorrow?

We've been hearing about an impending CPU update to Alienware's M11x for some time now, and now Dell Malaysia has quietly updated its website with options to order the revised not-quite-netbook. So what's new? Well, there's NVIDIA Optimus for starters, and the Intel Core 2 Duo processor has been thanked for its time and shown the door in lieu of Core i3, i5, and i7 CPUs on a QS57 chipset.

Dell Streak review

Streak. It needs no introduction, as this slate's been gaining a lot of attention amongst gadget lovers around the world. Thanks to the UK launch last Friday, we were one of the first on this planet to procure Dell's finalized Android 1.6 phone from O2. Yep, you heard right -- Engadget's now in possession of two Streaks, with the older one still in its original and somewhat unstable prototype state. Our new toy sports a matte "carbon" finish instead of chrome (no word on future availability; the red version's coming in two weeks' time), and now 399MB of RAM instead of 405MB (according to Android System Info app; yet it's advertised as 512MB). Anyhow, now that we have the real deal, there's plenty to go through, so join us after the break to see if the Streak's really going to start a new trend.

Dell Streak: $500 unlocked in US, available next month

We've just learned at D8 today that Dell will be offering the Streak to US customers direct from its website -- unlocked -- starting next month for $500. That's later than the June 4 date that UK customers will be enjoying, but it's earlier than it could've been -- Dell had merely been giving "later this Summer" guidance previously. More on this as it develops!

Dell Streak's Gorilla Glass screen: torture tested for your amusement (video)

So we've been hearing rumors about the Dell Streak being some kind of a rugged bad boy. Word is, the Gorilla Glass display on this 5-inch slate is good enough to withstand pretty much anything a human would care to throw its way. Them's fighting words where we come from, so we did the only thing a responsible tech blog can do -- we put them to the test. Should you be brave enough to follow us after the break, you'll come upon our best efforts to destroy our own Streak prototype, albeit with little success. Then again, the end result might be less important than the journey there, which is not to be missed.

Five Mobile Phones Worth Waiting For

Our phone wish list started weeks ago. Here are some that companies have promised will pop up "in Q2" or "this summer" or "at the holidays."
The first few months of each year in the cell-phone world are a wish list. New phones appear at a constant stream of trade shows—CES, MWC, CTIA—and then vanish again, with promises that they'll pop up "in Q2" or "this summer" or "at the holidays."

Alienware Aurora ALX (Core i7)

When you by an Alienware gaming system you're making a statement. The Alienware Aurora ALX (Core i7) ($4,249 direct) gaming desktop is like buying a Porsche: You can certainly find other cars that go just as fast for a lower price, but they wouldn't look as flashy, would they? There are plenty of other systems on the market with similar high-end, high-speed components, but none with the flash that an Alienware system has. The question is, are you willing to pay for it?

The Dell Mini 3 is a small, slim Android-powered smartphone, with a big touchscreen and a sharp profile. The versions already released in China and Brazil have been heavily customized, to the point of no longer even being able to download apps from the Android Market. AT&T has announced that it will be getting a Dell phone which looks exactly like it. Its phone will be able to download Android Market apps but may not have the standard Google array, said Bill Gordon, Dell's general manager of small-screen devices.
