New Core i7, Core i5 mobile processors to debut in HP Envy?

Intel's churning out the mobile chips like nobody's business -- no sooner does it admit the existence of Core i5 and Core i3 ULV CPUs, the chipmaker finds itself with more explaining to do.

ExoPC Windows 7 Slate can Play 1080p Videos

We were really willing to see the HP Slate PC in action but sadly HP pulled the plug on it, stating that Intel’s hardware is power hungry and Microsoft’s Windows 7 is not a good Tablet PC operating system. But now, ExoPC has come up with a similar Slate PC, that runs Windows 7 and does 1080p videos.

Entelligence: Meet H/Pre

Entelligence is a column by technology strategist and author Michael Gartenberg, a man whose desire for a delicious cup of coffee and a quality New York bagel is dwarfed only by his passion for tech. In these articles, he'll explore where our industry is and where it's going -- on both micro and macro levels -- with the unique wit and insight only he can provide.

Adding even more drama to an pivotal and transformative year in tech, last week HP announced it will buy Palm for the nice round sum of 1.2 billion dollars -- a move that will position it as a major player in the crowded mobile market. HP is no stranger to mobility -- the iPaq was once a defining mobile product -- but over the years the company has been unable to replicate that success with similar efforts in as the dynamic shifted from PDAs to phones. Buying Palm is a quick way of getting back in the game.

HP Slate killed? Rumor mill says 'yes'

Last night TechCrunch reported that, according to an unnamed "source briefed on the matter," HP had stopped development of the Slate in its tracks, killing off the project entirely. Why? Well, according to the source, HP isn't thrilled with Windows 7's performance on the tablet.

HP and Palm: what happens next

HP announcing that it's going to buy Palm in a $1.2b all-cash transaction certainly took everyone by surprise, but in many ways the deal makes perfect sense. HP is a gigantic player in the tech industry but has no appreciable presence in rapidly-growing mobile space, and Palm -- well, you should know how we feel about Palm by now. Even still, we can't say we were expecting this one, and it looks like most of you weren't either -- HP only got two percent of the vote in our "who should buy Palm" poll, while Engadget (that's us!) got... fourteen percent. Oops.

iPad vs HP Slate – Where Do You Stand in this Mac vs PC War?

Steve Jobs yesterday announced the most awaited and hyped Apple product in recent times – the iPad in his keynote address at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. On the other hand, HP Slate was first shown by Steve Ballmer at CES earlier this month. Both type of devices are of same form factor i.e. tablet/slate which many think may decide the future of general purpose computing.

HP Flashes a Few Slate Details

When HP's Slate tablet joined Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on stage at CES last January, the device aroused some curiosity, but few details were disclosed. HP's CTO has revealed a few more tidbits recently: The Slate will run Adobe's Air and Flash, technologies that the Apple iPad has rejected. However, HP is being vague about the device's other features -- for now, anyway.

Sometime later this year, HP (NYSE: HPQ) will release its Slate tablet PC device. What we know now is that it will run Windows 7 as well as Adobe (Nasdaq: ADBE) Flash and Air, according to information revealed by an HP executive.

However, it appears that the company is attempting to be quite selective about how and when it doles out further details on the device.

HP’s Windows 7 Slate Strikes at the iPad

The Apple iPad’s Oscar debut on millions of TVs may have been the talk of the town Monday morning, but not for long. Rival PC maker HP has launched a sneak attack on the iPad.
HP released a video introducing its tablet called the Slate that will run Windows 7 operating system and support Flash — a jab at the iPad, which will not display Flash-based sites or videos.
“With this slate product, you’re getting a full web browsing experience in the palm of your hand,” posted Phil McKinney, vice president and chief technology officer for HP’s personal system group on the company’s blog. “No watered-down internet, no sacrifices.”

HP did not reveal pricing or availability for the device, though it has indicated the Slate will be available this year.

When you're looking for a multimedia laptop and only have $1,000 to spend you usually have to sacrifice something. If you want a large screen, you will have to sacrifice speed or processing power to stay under budget and vice-versa. The HP Pavilion dv7-3183 ($999.99 list) gives you a good mix of both computing power (Intel's new core i5 CPU) and 17.3-inch screen without charging you an arm and a leg.

H.P. Working on ‘Half-Pint’ Android Tablet

Hewlett Packard is currently working on numerous tablet devices that will come in a variety of sizes, shapes and operating systems, including Windows 7, Google’s Android, and possibly the open-source operating system Linux.
The company has so many different tablet-related projects in the works that a variety of upcoming publishing partners were surprised to see a Windows 7 version of the Hewlett-Packard slate announced at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show.

HP Slate PC with Windows 7 Unveiled

As reported previously, Steve Ballmer in his keynote today at CES 2010 announced the HP Slate PC which is said to go retail later this year. What is interesting about this Slate PC is that instead of running a stripped down or a customized version of Windows or Windows Mobile, it will be running full fledged version of Windows 7 (Starter most probably). Here is what Ballmer had to say about it.
