LG 42SL90

With its wafer-thin profile and edge-to-edge glass design, the 42-inch LG 42SL90 ($1,999.99 list) is sure to elicit a fair share of oohs and aahs—that is, until you fire it up. While the edge-lit LED backlighting allows for a cabinet that measures just 1.2 inches thick, it produces a significant amount of distracting backlight glare around the sides. Overall, colors are accurate and picture detail is good, but black levels on this set could be better. Also you don't get Web connectivity, which is surprising given this model's $2K price tag.

Samsung, Panasonic start selling 3-D TVs this week

Want to be the first one on your block with a 3-D television? It will cost you about $3,000.
Samsung and Panasonic will start selling 3-D TVs in U.S. stores this week, inaugurating what manufacturers hope is the era of 3-D viewing in the living room. But because the sets require bulky glasses, and there is for now little to watch in the enhanced format, it will take at least a few years for the technology to become mainstream, if that happens at all.

Samsung Electronics Co. announced Tuesday that it is selling two 3-D sets this week. For $3,000, buyers get a 46-inch set, two pairs of glasses and a 3-D Blu-ray player.
Panasonic Corp. has said it will start selling 3-D sets Wednesday.

 Samsung UNC7000 series LED-based LCD
Samsung has announced the pricing and availability of its 2010 TVs, Blu-ray players, and home theater equipment, including numerous 3D-compatible products. This slideshow covers the TVs, and was updated since its initial publication to add more information provided by the company.
Samsung's first and least-expensive 3D-compatible TV (aside from the PNC7000 plasma models), the UNC7000 edge-lit LED-based LCD offers a 240Hz refresh rate and all of the Internet features found on less-expensive models. A couple of 3D-specific tweaks are provided, including a depth adjustment that allows you to add more or less of a 3D effect with native 3D content. 2D material can also be "converted" to 3D using the built-in system. Glasses cost extra, but are required for 3D.
