Windows Phone 7 pops up on a Samsung prototype device, plays Twin Blades

Microsoft's Joe Belfiore certainly piqued our interest at MIX by demoing Windows Phone 7 on an unidentified Samsung handset, but our excitement soon faded when we found out it was just a hacked-up Omnia i8910 and not a real phone. Still, the Sammy remains only the third WP7 device we've seen other than the ASUS-built test mule and the prototype LG Panther that's been popping up recently after debuting on the Engadget Show, so these two videos of it running a recent WP7 build at reMIX in France is still quite notable -- the OS seems fast and responsive, and we're told everything on the device was functional, including the GPS and camera. What's more, there's a demo of an Xbox Live Arcade / iPhone game port called Twin Blades by Press Star Studio -- it was done in a week by one programmer using 90 percent of the Xbox Live code. That's impressive, to say the least.

Microsoft Kin One and Kin Two announced: Windows Phone roots with a social slant (updated with video)

It's finally official: Microsoft Pink -- the product of Redmond's acquisition of Danger -- has just been unveiled as a pair of handsets sourced from Sharp (which made most of Danger's Sidekicks) known as the Kin One and Kin Two. The devices are being marketed as Windows Phones, and while they're ultimately based on most of the same underpinnings of Windows Phone 7, it's a distinctly and totally different experience -- the entire user interface is custom to Kin with a heavy social media slant, a custom browser (we're told it's based on the Zune's browser), and surprisingly, zero support for third-party apps. The displays are capacitive with support for multitouch (yes, you can pinch and zoom in the browser), but there's no support for in-browser Flash or Silverlight.

Unlock Windows Phone 7 Series Emulator for Full Experience

Dan Ardelean of Mobile Development blog has managed to unlock the full experience in the pre-released ROM of Windows Phone OS 7.0 which shipped earlier this week with the development tools for Windows Phone 7 Series. The original ROM as released by Microsoft only allowed access to the web browser (Internet Explorer) and “Settings” but with this hacked .BIN file, you can get access to entire Windows Phone 7 Series experience that Microsoft didn’t want you to see.

Windows Phone 7 Series Tablet Concept

Umang Dokey’s Windows 7 Phone Series tablet concept is rather enticing, and it even manages to feel genuinely like a Microsoft product, with its mixture of impossible sci-fi concepts (3D video conferencing) and gray office mundanity (a keyboard).

Windows Phone 7 ROM Build 7.0.0.6077

Folks over at XDA-Developers have dumped the Windows Phone 7 ROM Build 7.0.0.6077 off the PC Emulator software, which was released with dev tools at MIX10 yesterday. This marks the beginning of a long journey for XDA-devs to port this next-gen OS from Microsoft to the current-gen of Windows phone devices.

Windows Phone 7 Series Metro UI for Windows Mobile 6.5.x

Jaxbot at XDA-Developers forums is working hard on a Windows Phone 7 Series theme to bring the Metro UI over to Windows Mobile 6.5.x (aka Windows Phone Starter) based devices. The said UI is still in very early stages of development, and has some bugs as can be expected but it promises a lot. Here is how it currently looks like running on a HTC HD2.

Sony Ericsson Aspen with Windows Mobile 6.5.3 – Hands-On Video

Windows Mobile 6.6 to Launch at MWC Next Month?

According to the sources at Digitimes, Microsoft is set to launch Windows Mobile 6.6 (codename Maldives) sometime in February of this year. If this rumor regarding Windows Mobile 6.6 turns out to be true, then we could see it debut as early as next month at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Windows Mobile 6.6

Sales of Windows Mobile 6.5 have been flat since the platform was launched in the fourth quarter of 2009, pushing Microsoft to bring forward Windows Mobile 6.6, which supports capacitive touchscreens, the sources noted.
