You might recall yesterday's news that a little trickery into AT&T's systems brought about the breach of 114,000 Apple iPad-owning email addresses. Now it seems the FBI has taken an interest in the case and has launched an investigation into the "potential cyber threat" of the snafu.

Apple's "evil/genius" plan to punk the Web and gild the iPad

There were two awkward moments yesterday at Apple's World Wide Developers Conference. A few sites have already made much of Steve Jobs' wireless networking difficulties during his demonstration. But the real awkward moment was when Jobs launched into his defense of Apple's app approval process, which was a kind of "take it or leave it" apologia that, for the most part, didn't answer any of the tough questions about why some apps get turned down.

http://static.arstechnica.com/steve_jobs_evil_genius_ars.jpg

Jobs' point was to say, in effect, that those who want on Apple's mobile devices can embrace the open world of HTML 5 on the Web, and/or play by Apple's rules to get on the App Store. If you're a company looking for revenue, you've got two options: the big open Web, and the App Store, with its own mysterious brand of capriciousness (and a ton of money exchanging hands).

Adobe Partners to Deliver Flash Content to iPhone and iPad

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been very clearly and fairly adamant that Adobe Flash is fraught with too many issues to be allowed on the iPhone or iPad platforms. No worries. Adobe has partnered with Greystripe to implement a solution that circumvents Apple's ban on Flash and enables mobile advertisers to deliver Flash content on the Apple devices.

Mi-Stylus Turns your iPad into a “real” Tablet !

All the Apple iDevices (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) are designed to be used with fingers. But occasionally, there are times when you wish you had a stylus to operate these devices. This is especially useful for iPad which really fails as a note-taking/drawing Tablet. Due to the capacitive nature of the screen, the traditional styluses don’t work with these devices. This Mi-Stylus “has a special impregnated tip that replicates the physics of the human finger”.

HTC wants Ban on iPhone, iPad and iPod over Alleged Patent Infringement

In what looks like a backlash than anything else, HTC has responded to Apple’s patent lawsuit by filing a complaint with ITC (International Trade Commission), asking for sales ban on iPhone, iPad and iPod in US due to alleged infringement of five patents. This story in now turning similar to Nokia and Apple one in which both the parties have filed federal lawsuits against each other.

Use iPad with Magic Mouse [Video]

If you have been using your iPad on a desk with the official iPad Keyboard Dock accessory, you might have felt the need of having a mouse to control iPad’s screen. This is because it is more convenient to use a pointing device for interacting with a device when it is placed in a standing position on a desk, just like how we do with our desktop monitors, notebooks/netbooks and so on.

ExoPC Windows 7 Slate can Play 1080p Videos

We were really willing to see the HP Slate PC in action but sadly HP pulled the plug on it, stating that Intel’s hardware is power hungry and Microsoft’s Windows 7 is not a good Tablet PC operating system. But now, ExoPC has come up with a similar Slate PC, that runs Windows 7 and does 1080p videos.

Jailbreak App Turns iPhone Into 3G Modem for iPad

Data-hungry iPhone owners eager to grab iPads can forgo paying for a 3G model altogether and save a good buck. That is, so long as they’re willing to take a risk.

http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/gadgetlab/2010/05/img_0554.png

MyWi, an app available for hacked (i.e., jailbroken) iPhones, turns the handset into a wireless 3G modem that can be tethered to an iPad. That means you can skip paying the extra $130 on a 3G-only model, along with the $15 or $30 fee for data, and get internet access for free from your iPhone’s unlimited data plan, instead.

A tale of two iPad cases: the Dodocase and M-Edge Trip Jacket

If you're like us, one of the first things you wanted to do after getting your iPad was to find a great case for it. Right off the bat, we weren't really that into Apple's offering, which is strangely 90's in its design aesthetic, though it does have a number of decent features if you're looking for a do-it-all scenario and don't have strong feelings on looks. For us, however, the goal was finding something that kept a low profile, shielded the slate from unnecessary grime, and made it easier to deal with.

Apple sells 1,000,000 iPads in revolution's first month

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/10x0503ibu2345aa.jpg

Steve told us it'd be revolutionary, and if sales are the measure of a device's success, then the iPad seems to be well on track to validating its creator's bold claims. This past Friday, "just 28 days after its introduction," Apple sold its millionth iPad. 1.5 million ebooks have already been downloaded to the device, along with 12 million apps.

iPad 3G works on T-Mobile, can be hacked to send text messages

Here's a pair of interesting iPad 3G hacks for your lazy Sunday -- first, Apple's tablet is apparently unlocked out of the factory, so trimming a T-Mobile SIM to micro SIM size will get you up and running on EDGE with no further hassle. Not terribly useful in the States, but good news for Europeans who'll have several carrier options right out the gate. Secondly, MuscleNerd of the Dev Team has discovered it's apparently possible to send text messages from a jailbroken 3G iPad using a T-Mobile or non-iPad AT&T SIM -- the stock AT&T SIM restricts SMS and calls, apparently. Check videos of both hacks after the break.

New 3G iPad Reviewed

The wait for the new 3G iPad is finally over. I have my hands on the new 64GB Wi-Fi 3G model as I write this, complete with a $30-a-month data plan from AT&T.

After month one of hopping in and out of Wi-Fi hotspots using the Wi-Fi only version, I can safely say the 3G functionality dramatically changes the way I use this device. Let there be no doubt, the new 3G is superior.
