Microsoft Office Simplified For the Web

I am writing this in Microsoft Word, hardly an unusual way to author a document. But I'm not using Word as you know it—part of the large, complex Microsoft Office suite installed on your computer's hard drive. Instead, I am using a new, streamlined version of Word that for the first time resides on remote servers you reach through the Internet.

Adobe Partners to Deliver Flash Content to iPhone and iPad

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been very clearly and fairly adamant that Adobe Flash is fraught with too many issues to be allowed on the iPhone or iPad platforms. No worries. Adobe has partnered with Greystripe to implement a solution that circumvents Apple's ban on Flash and enables mobile advertisers to deliver Flash content on the Apple devices.

Microsoft Windows Embedded Compact 7 tablet prototype preview

So, there may never be a Windows 7 Phone tablet, but that device above looks pretty darn close to what one may have looked like. In actuality that's just the tablet that Microsoft has been using at Computex to demo its new Windows Embedded Compact 7 supporting Silverlight for Windows Embedded, Flash 10.1, and multitouch within the browser.

Originally announced with a planned second half of 2010 launch, today Google has narrowed the launch of its Chrome OS to fall. This, according to Sundar Pichai, Google VP of product management speaking at Computex. By our calculation that is sometime between 22 September and 21 December in the northern hemisphere if you want to take the man literally... and you do, don't you.

Some of the features of the app are as follows.

OpenWays makes your smartphone a hotel room key, provides a different kind of 'unlock'

For years now, hotel chains have been toying with alternative ways to letting patrons check-in, access their room and run up their bill with all-too-convenient in-room services. Marriott began testing smartphone check-ins way back in 2006, and select boutique locations (like The Plaza Hotel in New York and Boston's Nine Zero) have relied on RFID, iris scanners, biometric identifiers and all sorts of whiz-bang entry methods in order to make getting past a lock that much easier (or harder, depending on perspective).

New Skype 2.0 app for the iPhone allows voice calls over 3G

Plenty of other VoIP apps have managed to work in this functionality since Apple / AT&T started allowing it last year, but the official Skype app has been a notable holdout.

According to the sources at TechCrunch, the next version of iPhone OS, which is set to release this June will have Bing as its default search engine in Mobile Safari. Pac-Man hits 30 without losing its way

http://kmastin.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/pacman.gif

The fact that Namco's Pac-Man has been around for 30 years can make you feel ancient.
Pac-Man is one of the few early games to have survived the novelty of the arcade era. The addictive video offering with that minimalist chomping circle has been tweaked and remade repeatedly; there have been more than 50 versions of the landmark maze game. More than 10 billion games of Pac-Man have been played worldwide. Back in the day, Namco licensed nearly 294,000 arcade editions of the original, and its success spawned numerous ancillary cottage industries. The awful, funky rock of a song called "Pac-Man Fever," for instance, didn't stop the song from climbing quickly to No. 9 on the Billboard charts. It went gold in March 1982 and eventually sold 2.5 million copies.

The VP8 video codec: High compression+low complexity

On2 VP8 achieves high compression with a bitstream that is less compute intensive to decode than either its predecessor (VP7) or competing technologies like H.264. Here's how it works.

Microsoft Reinvents Hotmail with Tons of Features to Seriously Take on Gmail

Looks like Microsoft has really heard their users this time! This time they have really come up with some exciting new features which has really made Hotmail far more feature rich, and easier to use. Here are some of the most key changes that has been made to this latest version of Windows Live Hotmail .

Windows Live Hotmail
Hotmail Highlights
Hotmail Highlights is the first page you’ll see when you sign into Hotmail. Updates like status messages, Facebook and Twitter updates, and even if someone just changed their display picture will be displayed here as news feed. While it may be useful for many, some of you may who like to crash straight into their mail inbox will find it annoying.

This Oversized iPhone Runs Windows XP on a 7-inch Screen

Here is yet another one of those crap-gadgets that are good for nothing. The Sansui P72 is an oversized iPhone clone which is powered by a 1GHz Via C7-M CPU, and backed with 1GB of DDR2 ram and 32GB SSD. It features two USB ports (take that iPad !) along with one that doubles as eSATA, a 1.3 MP webcam, Gigabit Ethernet, and a 3 hours of battery life. The 7-inch resistive touchscreen with 800 x 480 isn’t something to write home about. Oh and this Apple clone runs Microsoft Windows XP, with an iPhone OS like interface layer to go on top of it.

How to save money on Office 2010

Now that Microsoft has officially kicked Office 2010 into the market, the next milestone is just weeks away: the June 15 launch of the retail versions and the beginning of the roll-out of the it's-all-free Office Web Apps to consumers.

http://www.lephuoc.net/imgproduct/office2010-420.jpg

That gives you a little more than a month to decide whether to upgrade to Office 2010 -- and figure out how you're going to pay for the suite.
The second part may be tougher than the first: Money not only doesn't grow on trees, but for many of us, that tree has withered since the last time Microsoft upgraded Office.

Microsoft On Google's Office Claims: Yeah, Right

Microsoft (NSDQ:MSFT) is disputing Google (NSDQ:GOOG)'s recent suggestion that companies should hold off on upgrading to Office 2010 and instead use their existing versions of Office in conjunction with Google Docs. Google's rationale is that Google Docs actually makes Office 2003 and 2007 better because it can store Microsoft Office documents in the cloud and share them in their original format. Google also plans to add real-time collaboration from within Office documents in the coming months using technology it gained from its March acquisition of DocVerse.
But Alex Payne, director of Microsoft's online product management team, says Google's position that Office 2007 and 2003 can work seamlessly together isn't accurate, in part because Google Docs converts Office files into a different file format for viewing and editing, which strips out fonts, styles, charts, and other page elements.
In fact, Microsoft has made sure that Office 2010 files created with the rich client are "almost identical" when viewed through a Web browser using Office Web Apps, according to Payne. "We strive for high fidelity between the PC, phone and the browser and we are very excited about the new collaboration capabilities this will enable," Payne said in a Tuesday blog post.
Stephen Elop, president of the Microsoft Business Division and one of the company's foremost cloud proponents, also dismissed Google's claims of Office-Docs interoperability.

CBS suits up, promises iPad-friendly HTML5 video for all content by this Fall

Visit CBS.com from your iPad right now and all you'll get is a full episode of Survivor and clips from various other shows. By the start of the Fall season, however, CBS Interactive SVP Anthony Soohoo is promising content parity between its Flash-based website and HTML5-compliant iPad portal. While on the subject, he also notes that the video strategy will be entirely web-based, with no plans for an app à la ABC Player. Flash isn't being subjected to a veritable slapsgiving, however, as it'll remain the desktop technology of choice. Soohoo notes HTML5's toolset for measurement and encryption isn't quite at the same level yet. Full video interview after the break, and iPad users? This fall, expect something quite legen -- oh, you know where we're going with this, but still we'll pause for dramatic effect -- dary.

Google Buys Bump Technologies, Maker of 3-D Desktop Software

Google Inc., owner of the world’s most popular search engine, has acquired Bump Technologies Inc., a company whose software makes computer desktops appear to be 3-D.

Google didn’t disclose the terms of the deal in an e-mailed statement today. Bump Technologies, which said it will close its service, lets users download the BumpTop software that gives desktops a 3-D look and helps group and manage files.
